AMERICAN MUSIC CENTER AWARDS GRANTS TO COMPOSERS

$27,491 Awarded for Support for Production of Performance Materials

NEW YORK - The American Music Center (AMC) is pleased to announce grant awards totaling $27,491 to 34 composers through the current round of the Composer Assistance Program (CAP). The awardees are American composers ranging in age from 25 to 85, residing in twelve states and one European country.

AMC awards approximately $85,000 annually to composers to assist in the production of performance materials for premiere performances. Among the organizations premiering or featuring public readings of CAP-supported works this round are the Eastman Philharmonia Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the American Composers Orchestra, the Peabody Opera Theater, and the New York Young Musicians Forum. See below for the complete list of awardees and performers.

“Generations of composers have received significant support from the Composers Assistance Program,” said Joanne Cossa, Executive Director of the American Music Center. “The range of artists being recognized today vividly demonstrates how vital CAP remains.”

Since 1962, the Composer Assistance Program has provided over $2 million in support to American composers. Over 1,200 composers have received a CAP award at some point in their career. Composers must be members of the American Music Center to apply for an award. Lead funding for the Composer Assistance Program is provided by The Helen F. Whitaker Fund, with additional support from the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust and the Irving Harris Foundation.
